Fort Lee Students Nominated For Presidential Award
President Lyndon B. Johnson established the Presidential Scholar Program to honor the nation's most distinguished high school seniors.

FORT LEE, N.J. — Four Fort Lee high school seniors have been named candidates for one of the most prestigious honors students can receive.
Mikako R. Inaba, Garrett, Backer, Sooyong Kwon and Gavin P. Lifrieri were named as candidates for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Kwon and Lifrieri attend Fort Lee High School. Inaba and Backer attend the Academy for the Advancement of Science & Technology.
Up to 161 students are named presidential scholars annually.

President Lyndon B. Johnson established the program in 1964 to honor some of the country's "most distinguished graduating high school seniors." The program was extended in 1979 to recognize students in the visual, creative and performing arts and against in 2015 to honor students attending technical high schools.
