Police Arrest Fugitive, Find Guns At Fort Lee Motel: Police

Jacaree M. Cogdell of Virginia had warrants out on him for allegedly attempting to 'maliciously shoot' people, police said.

FORT LEE, NJ — Seven people, including a fugitive, were arrested and guns and hollow-point bullets were found inside stolen vehicles in a borough motel parking lot Saturday morning, police announced.

Police were patrolling the Skyview Motel parking lot off of Route 1 North near the George Washington Bridge at about 6:30 a.m. when they discovered two stolen vehicles and seven people inside them, said Lt. Sean Peppard.

Backup police officers arrived and the three adults and four juveniles were arrested. One of the juveniles had a gun on him and police found two guns, a high-capacity gun magazine, and marijuana inside the vehicles, a 2017 Ford Fusion and 2008 Subaru Forrester, Peppard said. The vehicles were registered in Virginia.

Jacaree M. Cogdell, 18, of Newport News, Virginia, had a warrant for his arrest in Newport Virginia for four counts of attempting to "maliciously shoot" people and other charges, Peppard said.

Cogdell was charged with several firearms offenses, including unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of hollow-point bullets, and cruelty and neglect of children, the lieutenant said.

Emanuel Holley and Zeqwan Pair, both 18, both of Newport News, Virginia, were also arrested and charged. Holley was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of hollow-point bullets, and cruelty and neglect of children, police said. Pair was charged with receiving stolen property and cruelty and neglect of children.

Cogdell, Holley, and Pair were taken to the Bergen County Jail pending their first court appearance.

Two of the four juveniles were taken to the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center. The other two were released to their families.
