Port Authority Police Arrest Pair Wanted On Child Cruelty, Burglary Charges

Maribel Borges and Hector Castro were arrested after police noticed the Honda they were in had a cracked windshield.

Two South Jersey residents wanted on child cruelty and burglary warrants were arrested near the Holland Tunnel Monday morning, Port Authority Police said.

Police pulled over the Honda sedan Maribel Borges and Hector Castro were in due because the car’s windshield was cracked, said Port Authority Police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

Police found a bottle of suspected Methadone with a name on it other than the two individuals and a small amount of white powder was found in a bag, authorities said.

Borges, 27, had four small white baggies contained white power residue and a hypodermic needle, Pentangelo said. She had an active warrant out for her arrest out of Atlantic County for cruelty towards a child, authorities said.

Castro had multiple aliases and was wanted on a parole violation for burglary, police said.

Borges was charged with possession of Methadone, possession of drug paraphernalia, hindering apprehension, and traffic violations; Castro was charged with possession of Methadone and hindering apprehension, police said.
