Survivor Of Fatal Curb-Jumping Accident Describes Crash: Report

The car that killed his friends 'came out of nowhere,' he said.

Manuel Sanchez, the 17-year-old survivor of the horrific crash that killed his friends, said the car that crashed into them "came out of nowhere."

Noel Herrera, 17, of Cliffside Park, and Bryan Rodriguez, 16, of Union City were killed and another teenager, 17-year-old Manuel Sanchez, was almost killed too.

"We were trying to go to Bryan's house because I was sleeping over. And then my friend Noel was taking a picture of Bryan and you know I waited for them too," Sanchez told ABC7. "And once we turn our heads we saw a car coming, we didn't know what to do because came out, it went too fast. Came out of nowhere."

A car hoped the curb near 26th Street and Kennedy Boulevard in North Bergen, across the street from Union City High School, hitting the teens on the sidewalk Saturday night. Herrera and Rodriguez died instantly, authorities said.

Sanchez suffered a broken leg.

The car was going 74 miles per hour, Hudson County Sheriff Frank X. Schillari.said at a press conference Monday afternoon, The Record said.

The driver, who is facing two counts of death by auto, had been driving with a suspended license, authorities said.

The driver had allegedly gotten into a fight with a girlfriend and may have taken drugs before getting behind the wheel of the car and barreling into the victims, NBC Philadelphia reported.
