Cold and dry conditions continue

A cold and dry day is expected in the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas today after morning temperatures came close to breaking some records.  Some mid level cloud cover prevent temperatures from breaking record low temperatures in New York City but many locations still fell into the single digits below to single digits above zero this morning.  The good news though is warmer times are ahead with temperatures returning to near normal levels by the end of the week.

Today through tomorrow, high pressure will be in control with scattered cloud cover expected.  A few isolated snow showers will be a threat but no accumulation is expected.  Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph, increasing to 10 to 20 mph by tomorrow evening.  Temperatures today will rise into the mid 20's over the interior and upper 20's to lower 30's along the coast.  Temperatures tomorrow will range from the lower to mid 10's for lows and lower to mid 30's for highs.

An area of low pressure will organize over the Southeast and lift northeast towards the Mid Atlantic coast before exiting due east into the Atlantic Ocean by Friday.  The track of this low pressure system will keep almost all of the rainfall off the New Jersey coast and well south of Long Island for Thursday and Friday.  However, the combination of high pressure over Maine and the low pressure system around the North Carolina coastal waters will lead to windy conditions and the threat for some coastal flooding for Wednesday night on through Friday.  A few showers are also a threat along the coast with overcast skies for much of the region.  Temperatures on Thursday will range from the lower to mid 20's for lows and mid to upper 30's for highs.  Temperatures on Friday will range from the mid to upper 20's for lows and lower to mid 40's for highs.

Variable clouds and isolated to widely scattered showers will remain a threat Saturday on through Monday.  While no organized area of rainfall is expected the showers will be capable of brief heavy downpours.  Most locations though will remain dry.  Temperatures on Saturday will range from the upper 20's to lower 30's for lows and upper 40's to lower 50's for highs.  On Sunday, temperatures will range from the upper 20's to lower 30's for lows and lower to mid 40's for highs.  On Monday, temperatures will range from the upper 20's to lower 30's for lows and mid to upper 40's for highs.
