As part of the Freehold Boro Mayor's Health & Fitness Initiative, residents have the opportunity to try a free yoga class on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 6:00 pm at the Freehold Yoga Studio, 3 West Main Street. The yoga class will include traditional exercises called asanas (yogic stretching) pranayama (yogic breathing exercises) and deep relaxation. The class is open to all levels; participants should bring a yoga mat.
The Freehold yoga center is one of the oldest Yoga, spiritual centers in New Jersey, open since 1988. Founded by Nina Sabatino (Devaki) and Joe DeOrio (Omkar)It is open to all wanting to learn the techniques of yoga and self discovery. Acharya Krishnadas Sharma is an American born Brahmin, spiritual teacher and co-director of Freehold yoga center. He was manager of the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Ranch and senior teacher there for many years.
The Freehold Boro Mayor's Health & Wellness initiative has been hosting a free series of events since the early summer, including weekly walks and monthly bike rides with the Mayor. A free weekly fitness class at the Community YMCA began September 17th and is being offered every Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. For more information about any of the programs, call 732-462-4200.
