Scott Napolitano, a teacher at Howell High School who was at the theater to see “Brooklyn,” said the patrons were confused but calm as they evacuated.

Freehold Township police issued a notification asking people to avoid the area around the theater due to a “law enforcement/emergency situation” until further notice, the Monmouth County Police, Fire & EMS Facebook page reported.

Napolitano said he saw five police cars and two sniffing dogs at the theater, and that the group of people evacuated had been pushed back farther from the theater.
