Freehold Regional High School District Helps Those Fighting Coronavirus On The Front Lines

The Freehold Regional High School District community has come together to help those who are fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

As COVID-19 rages across the state, the Freehold Regional High School District community has come together to help those who are on the front lines fighting the virus.

School administrators and members of the district’s Buildings & Grounds team combed our buildings to find supplies to assist the healthcare workers at CentraState Medical Center. FRHSD was able to send over 15,000 gloves, 150 exam gowns, 40 N95 masks, 180 goggles, and boxes of alcohol prep pads and disposable wipes.

In addition, technology teachers at Howell High School have begun producing straps to help make the protective masks healthcare workers wear more comfortable. The elastic straps on the surgical masks which go behind the wearer’s ears can cause irritation after long hours of use. Michael Cappiello and Scott Napolitano, both teachers at Howell High School, have begun using the school’s 3D printers to produce a plastic strap that goes behind the wearer’s head so that the protective mask loops no longer hook onto their ears. They recently delivered the first batch of 50 straps to CentraState. School officials have also shared the printer files with other schools both in the FRHSD and in districts around the state for the production of straps for their communities.

District administrators were also contacted by officials at CentraState who were seeking compartmentalized food trays to serve the influx of patients. The district delivered 4,000 trays to the hospital earlier this week.
