Heavy rain enhances snow melt

-- Areas of dense fog this morning is the calling card for very warm air moving into the region as the entire Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas are above freezing.  The warm air moving over the snow pack, which is melting, sets up the perfect environment for areas of dense fog with visibility below a mile.  The snow melt will be enhanced by this late afternoon and evening with periods of moderate to heavy rain.

Today, the locally dense fog will give way to scattered to broken cloud cover by the late morning hours.  A cold front will approach the region by this afternoon and evening with periods of rain, heavy at times.  The combination of rain and the snow melt will lead to localized urban flooding due to blocked storm drains.  Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 40's over the interior and lower 50's along the coast.

High pressure will be in control tomorrow through Sunday with excellent weather conditions expected.  Scattered clouds can be expected with winds from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures on Saturday will range from the lower to mid 30's for lows and lower to mid 50's for highs.  Temperatures on Sunday will range from the mid to upper 30's for lows and lower to mid 50's for highs.

A cold front will exit the region on Monday with periods of rain and snow in the morning.  The passing cold front will knock down temperatures to near normal levels with lows in the upper 20's to lower 30's and highs in the lower to mid 40's.

A series of disturbances will produce periods of light to moderate snow for Tuesday and Wednesday with moderate snowfall accumulations expected.  High pressure will take hold on Thursday with scattered clouds.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid 20's for lows and lower to mid 30's for highs.
