Warm up continues as temperatures hit freezing

The warm up continues today with much of the coastal plain including the major cities finally hitting freezing by this afternoon.  By this weekend, while rain will be falling, temperatures will be 20 degrees or more above the freezing mark!

Today through tomorrow, a series of disturbances will move through the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas with the threat for a few flurries and scattered snow showers.  Accumulations if any will max out at an inch in a few extremely isolated locations.  Otherwise, scattered cloud cover is expected with winds from the west at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures today will rise into the mid to upper 20's over the interior and lower to mid 30's along the coast.  Tomorrow, temperatures will warm above freezing with lows in the mid to upper 20's and highs in the upper 30's over the interior and lower to mid 40's along the coast.

On Saturday, a cold front with a wave of low pressure will approach the region with periods of rain expected late in the afternoon through the evening hours.  The rain will be heavy at times leading to the threat for localized flash flooding.  Rainfall amounts of one to two inches can be expected.  Winds will be from the south at 10 to 20 mph, transporting very warm air into the region.  Temperatures will range from the mid to upper 30's for lows and mid to upper 50's for highs.

The cold front will exit on early Sunday morning with clearing skies through the rest of the day.  High pressure will take hold Sunday afternoon through Tuesday with scattered cloud cover and tranquil weather conditions.  Temperatures will remain above normal through the period as the January thaw continues.  Low temperatures will range from the lower to mid 30's over the interior and upper 30's to lower 40's along the coast.  High temperatures will range from the mid to upper 40's over the interior and lower to mid 50's along the coast.

An area of low pressure and a strong cold front will approach on Wednesday with periods of rain, possibly ending as snow as the storm exits.  Heavy rainfall can be expected with this low pressure system leading to more flash flooding threats.  Temperatures will range from the upper 20's to lower 30's for lows and upper 30's to lower 40's for highs.  This cold front and low pressure system will mark the end of the January thaw and a return to colder weather conditions.
