Warm up on the way as region thaws out

After a brutal start to December with snow, ice, Arctic air, and generally raw weather conditions, the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas will get a brief break through this weekend.  Don't get too used to the warm temperatures though because Arctic air is not far off.

High pressure will be in control today through Saturday with generally tranquil weather conditions.  An isolated shower will be a threat from time to time, but the main weather impact will be the potential for locally dense fog starting tomorrow morning and continuing each morning through Sunday.  Winds will veer to the southwest today and remain over the southwest through Sunday at 10 to 20 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid 40's for highs this afternoon.  Tomorrow, temperatures all range from the upper 20's to lower 30's for lows and mid to upper 40's for highs.  On Saturday, temperatures will range from the mid to upper 30's for lows and mid to upper 40's for highs.  On Sunday, temperatures will sky rocket to well above normal levels with lows in the mid 30's to lower 40's and highs in the upper 50's to mid 60's.  A few isolated locations could reach the upper 60's with enough sun shine!  These temperatures would be record breaking.

However, the fun comes to a halt quickly with an Arctic cold front late Sunday into Monday with periods of rain expected.  The rain may end as snow showers as the cold air invades on Monday.  High temperatures on Monday will be in the early morning with temperatures in the upper 40's then fall through the 40's and 30's in the afternoon.

Arctic high pressure will be in control Tuesday and Wednesday with much colder weather conditions but dry conditions as well.  With clearing skies temperatures will crash into the mid 10's to lower 20's for lows and upper 20's to lower 30's over the interior and mid to upper 30's along the coast for highs.
