With Great Expectations, A Christmas Carol Comes To Center Playhouse!

"Since I have seen major productions of this tale throughout the years I wondered how Center Players could relay this classic tale with such limited space." - Gloria Moro

Last night I attended a rehearsal of A Christmas Carol by Michael Paller at Center Playhouse in Freehold, NJ.  This theater continues to amaze me!  Since I have seen major productions of this tale throughout the years I wondered how this small theater could relay this classic tale with such limited space.  Again they didn’t disappoint me.  Paller’s version takes place in 1843 at a Christmas Eve gathering of friends in Charles Dickens’ study.  Dickens, played by Bill Lee, announces that he has a new idea for a story and wishes the group would act it out for him.  The group is delighted to comply and eagerly engage themselves in their roles.

We all know the story but under the direction of Jeff Caplan, the cast skillfully takes us back in time to tell this Christmas Classic.  There’s even a beautiful duet sung by Yvette Cataneo and Lynne Cefalo.  I would highly recommend spending an evening at Center Playhouse to put you in the Christmas spirit.

Gloria Moro of Manalapan is a guest blogger for Center Players.  She has studied playwriting at The Playwrights Theater, New Jersey Rep and McCarter Theater.
