2 Cars Catch Fire In Egg Harbor Twp. Crash; Good Samaritans Help

Before the vehicles were engulfed in flames, good samaritans helped two people who couldn't get out of their car.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — Two vehicles caught fire Saturday after crashing in Egg Harbor Township, police said. Before both vehicles became engulfed in flames, good samaritans helped two people escape their car.

The crash occurred at about 7:30 p.m. at Cates Road and West Jersey Avenue. Shirley Dingle, 70, of Pleasantville, traveled down Cates Road and didn't stop at a stop sign, police said. Her car hit a 2011 Nissan Altima driving westbound on West Jersey Avenue.

Both cars hit a utility pole. Dingle's 2013 Toyota Rav-4 was pushed up onto the hood of the Altima and pinned against the pole. Both Altima occupants were able to leave the car unhurt.

Dingle and her passenger — an Absecon woman — needed help getting out of the car. Several good samaritans helped them escape before the vehicles were engulfed in flames.

They both were taken to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center-Mainland Campus with non-life threatening injuries. Police identified the good samaritans as Egg Harbor Township residents Timothy Dlugosz and Juan Perez and Mays Landing resident Jennifer Hauta.
