Afternoon Fire Engulfs Galloway Home: Police

The roadway was closed for several hours Wednesday afternoon as the fire departments extinguished the flames, Galloway police said.

GALLOWAY, NJ — A Galloway home was "engulfed in flames" Wednesday afternoon, according to the Galloway Township Police Department.

Police responded to the 400 block of South Second Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. on Sept. 28 for reports of a structure fire, police said.

A single family residence was on fire, police said. The residents were not home at the time, police said.

Bayview Volunteer Fire Co., Oceanville Volunteer Fire Company and Absecon Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, according to police.

Galloway Twp. EMS, Galloway Twp. OEM, Atlantic City Electric, South Jersey Gas, and the Red Cross all responded to the scene to assist, police said.

While the departments were working, S. Second Avenue between Jimmie Leeds Road and Ridgewood Avenue was closed for several hours, police said. It has since been reopened.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to police.
