Atlantic City Man Tried To Flee After Being Caught With Drugs: Police

Police took a handgun, a large quantity of drugs and $2,000 in cash from the man.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — An Atlantic City man faces multiple charges after being police recovered from him a loaded handgun, a large amount of illegal narcotics and thousands of dollars in cash, Atlantic City police said.

Louis Roe, 25, is charged with two counts of possession of CDS, two counts of possession with intent to distribute CDS, certain persons not to possess weapons, unlawful possession of weapon, possessing a weapon during CDS distribution offense, possession of hollow point bullets, possession of a high capacity magazine, aggravated assault on police, resisting arrest and obstruction.

Members of the Atlantic City Police Department’s Special Investigations Section were conducting a surveillance operation in the first block of South Florida Avenue on April 21 when they noticed Roe "loitering" in the area. Roe took part in several suspected drug deals during this operation, police said, and detectives had information that indicated Roe had a gun on him.

Roe attempted to flee the scene as officers approached him, police said. He resisted arrest, but was taken into custody after a struggle, authorities said.

Police found a Glock handgun, loaded with hollow point ammunition and a high capacity magazine, that had fallen down Roe's pant leg during the struggle.

Atlantic City police also recovered about 500 individual wax folds of suspected heroin, 14 grams of crack cocaine and $2,090 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of illegal narcotics sales.

The surveillance operation and arrest were led by Detectives Chris Dodson and James Barret with assistance from Sergeant Richard Andrews and Detectives Chris Smith and Eric Evans.
