Atlantic Co. Could Have First Countywide Municipal Court In NJ

Tuesday night, commissioners will take another step in adding the Central Municipal Court of Atlantic County into the county government.

NORTHFIELD, NJ — Tuesday night, the Board of Commissioners will take another step in including the Central Municipal Court of Atlantic County in the county government.

The Board will see, for the first time, an ordinance amending the county code to include the municipal court as a division of the county. All municipal court employees would be county employees under the ordinance, county documents show.

In April, the county received a grant from the state Department of Community Affairs to support a municipal court system countywide. A consolidated court system could save municipalities 30 to 40 percent, County Executive Dennis Levinson said at the time.
