Hello and welcome to “Our little Blog Patch” from Ava Holly

Many of you know that last year I started a foundation for Brain Cancer Research in honor of my Mother, who passed from the disorder suddenly.

When I released the foundation, I did it with 16 charities in one room which prompted the quest for our National Health Causes Day .

We'll save all that for another blog as today I want to highlight one charity in particular for the unique healing powers it brings us. I have to say , though, that through all this, I have met some truly amazing people and organizations like Sammie's Mission, St. Baldricks, and the wonderful folks at Field of Dreams.

So what the heck then is CFR???? If you haven't heard yet, it is Casting for Recovery . Well what's that???

Find out what's happening in Gallowayfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Casting for Recovery was founded in 1996 by a professional fly fisher and a reconstructive surgeon. CFR Canada was established in 2004, CFR UK/Ireland in 2007, and CFR New Zealand conducted its first retreat in February , 2010.

It has been discovered that the rhythm of casting a fishing line or the motion of fly-casting, is similar to the exercises that surgeons prescribe after surgery or radiation.

With the natural setting that accompanies this sport, is is also determined that it helps to relieve everyday stress and provides a mental well being along with a physical one.

So what happens is- women of all ages and in all stages of breast cancer treatment and recovery are taken on weekend retreats. These retreats incorporate physical and emotional healing through fly-fishing and is offered at no cost to the participants.
