The Day the Dinosaurs invaded Absecon!
The Absecon Library hosted a Dinosaur program for children Tuesday, July 19 at the American Legion Post.
It was a quiet little afternoon last Tuesday in Absecon when 30-40 kids gathered around paleontologist Bob Lisaius to learn about dinosaurs. Bob had heard from the Absecon librarians that there were dinosaurs in Absecon and he followed their tracks to the American Legion Post to find out if the rumors were true.
Bob Lisaius, aka DinoMan, traveled from Vermont to Absecon to ignite the imagination of kids from Absecon and Galloway and to let them spend the afternoon as paleontologists-in-training. The kids were mesmerized as Bob took us on a journey through the Mesozoic Era. Along the way he used humor, magic, and props to teach us all, young and old, about history, biology, archaelogy, and of course dinosaurs. Several kids had a chance to volunteer with Bob doing crazy things like balancing their bodies on two chairs, catching frozen air, and experiencing life as a planet.
The kids and adults had such a fun afternoon. If that wasn't enough, we then followed the tracks to see what else we could discover. Discover, we did.

The dinosaurs had invaded Absecon!
One by one, they came to life. First, it was a ten-foot hadrosaur inside the American Legion Post. Then, outside there was a sauropod and t-rex. These were unlike any dinosaurs we had seen before. Kids could go up and pet them. Many parents took pictures of the kids with the dinosaurs. We even saw some brave kids stand inside the dinosaur's mouth. The dinosaurs didn't seem to mind. They didn't even flinch. They were, after all, inflatable.
It was a day, I'm sure our local kids will not forget anytime soon. But the fun summer memories don't have to end there. We are fortunate in the Galloway and Absecon area to be so close to two great libraries, the Absecon Library and The Galloway branch of the Atlantic County Library system. Both of these libraries have many great programs going on for FREE this summer for our kids.
