CHOP Vaccine Expert Discusses Vaccines, Alternative Medicine

Dr. Paul Offit, Chief of CHOP's Division of Infectious Diseases, Discusses Religion, Vaccines and Alternative Medicine

Paul Offit, MD, Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Director of Vaccine Education at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, will discuss vaccines, alternative medicine and topics from his new book, Bad Faith: When Religious Belief Undermines Modern Medicine at 7 p.m. on July 16th at the UU Center, 75 S. Pomona Road at the corner of Liebig Street.

Dr. Offit is the Maurice R. Hilleman Professor of Vaccinology and Professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He is an internationally recognized vaccine expert and the author of books including Deadly Choices: How the Anti-Vaccine Movement Threatens Us All and Do You Believe in Magic?: The Sense and Nonsense of Alternative Medicine. His contributions to child health have been lauded by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, among others. He is also the co-inventor of the rotavirus vaccine, RotaTeq, recommended for universal use in infants by the CDC. He has been featured on the PBS program NOVA and on National Public Radio.
