Church of the Assumption—Providing Religious Education Since the 1920s
A profile of the Galloway church tracks how it began as a parish in Egg Harbor City.

Church of the Assumption, 146 S. Pitney Rd. in Galloway Township, began as a mission of St. Nicholas Parish in Egg Harbor City prior to the automobile. Members of the church walked to services in that period.
The cornerstone of the Church of the Assumption was laid in 1925, and the parish was officially established in 1952. The church’s school began in September of 1958 with 193 students in six grades. The church today is a parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Camden.
The Rev. Michael J. Matveenko (“Father Mike”) is the church pastor, and the Rev. Robert D’Imperio is the Parochial Vicar of the school.

Assumption Regional Catholic School is a pre-K through 8 grade school open to all students and accredited by the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools. The campus is quite large with plenty of free parking. The parish center is located in Building One. The architecture of the complex makes a visit worthwhile.
