Cop Hurt After Car Runs Atlantic Co. Stop Sign: Police

An Egg Harbor Township officer crashed into another car after the driver did not stop at a stop sign, police said.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — An Egg Harbor Township police officer was injured Monday after his cop car crashed into another driver that did not stop at a stop sign, police said.

Officer Timothy Canale was taken to Shore Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, police said. He struck Michael Knapp, 40, of Bayville, who was issued traffic summonses for careless driving and failure to yield the right of way, police said.

The crash happened on Aug. 9 at the intersection of Spruce Avenue and Franklin Avenue in the Cardiff section of town at about 8:18 a.m., police said.

Canale was driving a marked patrol SUV (#197) northbound on Spruce Avenue when Knapp, driving westbound on Franklin Avenue in a 2018 Nissan Frontier, did not stop at the stop sign, police said.

Because Knapp did not stop, Canale's SUV's front bumper struck the mid-driver side of Knapp's Nissan, causing it to rotate and roll towards its passenger side, police said. The Nissan left the roadway onto the northwest corner of the intersection, police said.
