Man Who Allegedly Hit Galloway Cop With Car in July Captured: Police
James Gallaway was arrested on Sunday in the Smithville section of the township.

A Galloway man who allegedly hit an officer with his car before fleeing on foot in July was arrested over the weekend, Galloway Police said on Monday.
James Gallaway had been wanted on warrants for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, assault by auto, eluding, obstruction, possession of CDS, and numerous motor vehicle violations stemming from a July 29 incident in which K-9 Sgt. Scott Winneberger stopped Gallaway’s car on Wrangleboro Road near Moss Mill Road.
As Winneberger was speaking to Gallaway, Gallaway allegedly pulled away, hitting Winneberger in the process. Winneberger suffered minor injuries.

Police found Gallaway’s car crashed a short distance away. Gallaway had allegedly fled on foot and could not be found, but police allegedly found heroin in his car.
On Sunday, the Galloway Township Police Department received information that Gallaway was inside an apartment on Meadowridge Road in the Smithville section of the township and may be armed.

Nearby residents were evacuated from the area and Atlantic County SWAT responded. Gallaway voluntarily surrendered at 1:37 AM without incident. Evacuated residents were allowed to return to their homes at that time.
The SWAT team and Galloway Township Police Detectives executed a search warrant at the home. Additional charges are pending. Gallaway was lodged at Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Galloway EMS, Absecon EMS, Atlanticare EMS, and Galloway Township Public Works assisted at the scene. Egg Harbor City Police assisted in handling calls for service in Galloway during the incident.
