TUCKERTON, NJ - New Jersey State Police recognized a young hero this week for the life-saving actions she took to rescue a drowning boy at a pool party last month.

On June 18, Conchita Pedraza-Garcia, 12, was at a family gathering within the Tuckerton station’s jurisdiction when she witnessed a boy, 9, drowning in a pool, New Jersey State Police said in a statement.

Pedraza-Garcia alerted adults nearby “without hesitation” and the adults were able to assist the drowning child, state police said.

The boy was transported to an area hospital and has since made a full recovery, state police added.

“We commend Conchita for recognizing that the boy was in distress and her quick thinking to get an adult,” the agency said. “Her actions undoubtedly prevented a tragedy! You are a hero, Conchita!”
