Teacher Charged In Inappropriate Relationship With NJ Student: Cops

Joseph Scalfaro, an Atlantic City High School teacher, had a relationship with the student both on and off school property, officials said.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — An Atlantic City High School teacher was charged in an investigation into an "inappropriate relationship" between the teacher and a former student, officials said.

Joseph A. Scalfaro, 47, of Absecon, was charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, fourth-degree criminal sexual contact and second-degree official misconduct, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

According to interviews by the ACPO Special Victims Unit, Scalfaro and the student "engaged in an inappropriate relationship" both on and off school property, officials said.

Scalfaro was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility, officials said.

Officials are continuing to actively investigate, they said.
