25 Displaced After Fire Hits Row Of Gloucester City Homes

The 2-alarm blaze impacted 6 homes, displacing 13 children and 12 adults.

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ — Twenty-five residents were displaced after a Wednesday night fire hit a row of Gloucester City homes, fire officials told Patch. The blaze impacted six homes overall.

The Gloucester City Fire Department reported to the 300 block of Ridgeway Street at 10:52 p.m. for a dwelling fire. When personnel arrived, they observed heavy fire toward the end of the row at 314 Ridgeway Street, which had already spread to adjacent row homes, according to Fire Chief Michael Hagan.

Officials initiated a second alarm. The fire was under control at 12:11 a.m. Thursday.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries, Hagan said.

The incident displaced 13 children and 12 adults. The American Red Cross assisted them, and the Knights of Columbus Hall established an emergency shelter.

The Camden County Office of the Fire Marshall is investigating the cause.

Assisting agencies also included the Bellmawr Fire Department, Brooklawn Fire Department, Camden City Fire Department, Collingswood Fire Department, Haddon Heights Fire Department, Mount Ephraim Fire Department, Westmont Fire Department, Westville Fire Department, Gloucester City Police Department, Gloucester City OEM and Virtua ALS and BLS.
