Camden Co. Teacher Charged With Sex Assault Of Girl Has Been Suspended
The substitute, charged with 8 counts of sexual assault, had no prior background concerns, according to the staffing agency that hired her.
RUNNEMEDE, NJ — A Camden County substitute teacher accused of sexually assaulting a girl throughout the past four years has been suspended from work, according to the staffing agency that hired her.
Rebecca Coddington was charged Monday on 12 counts, ranging from endangering the welfare of a child to aggravated sexual assault. The Runnemede Public School District contracted her as a substitute teacher.
The incidents occurred in a Gloucester Township home, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office (CCPO). The law-enforcement agency said Thursday that it hasn't received any allegations involving Runnemede students.

Kelly Services has removed Coddington from all future assignments, pending the outcome of the criminal case, a company spokesperson told Patch.

The agency's screening process found no prior background concerns for Coddington.
"The employee and all our substitute educators undergo rigorous screening and background checks," the spokesperson said. "Our screening process includes a criminal records check, including crimes against children, and a search of the National Sex Offender Registry. We also adhere to state and district requirements for screening. No background concerns related to the employee were identified." (View the full statement below.)
Coddington's offenses occurred from September 2019 through Dec. 29, 2023, the CCPO said. She was charged with the following:
- two counts of aggravated sexual assault (first-degree)
- six counts of sexual assault (second-degree)
- two counts of aggravated criminal sexual contact (third-degree)
- two counts of endangering the welfare of a child (third-degree)
Coddington was arrested in Gloucester Township and placed in the Camden County Correctional Facility, pending a detention hearing.
Although no allegations regarding Runnemede students have surfaced, District Superintendent Mark Iannucci advised parents to contact their child's counselor if assistance is needed.
"We are cooperating with the Camden County Prosecutor's Office as they investigate the allegations," Iannucci said Thursday in a letter to the school community.
