Camden County Man Arrested In Plainsboro Woman's Murder: Cops

Kenneth Saal and Carolyn Byington were co-workers at a marketing firm. She was found murdered in her apartment on June 10.

PLAINSBORO, NJ — A Camden County man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of his co-worker, a 26-year-old Plainsboro woman who was found murdered in her apartment on June 10, authorities announced Thursday morning.

Kenneth C. Saal, 30, of Lindenwold, was arrested on Wednesday in the death of Carolyn Byington, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Plainsboro Police Department. He was charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the third degree.

Saal and Byington worked together at a marketing firm in the Plainsboro area, according to authorities. Byington was a project manager for Engine US in Princeton, according to her LinkedIn profile. Saal is a staff accountant at the same firm, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Byington went home to have lunch on June 10, and when she never returned, her co-workers asked police to conduct a wellness check at her apartment.

Plainsboro police responded to her home at about 5:57 p.m., at which time they found her deceased in her apartment, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at 7:36 p.m. Neighbors previously told News 12 they heard screams coming from her home at about 1 p.m.

After an investigation by the Plainsboro Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, charges were filed against Saal. Authorities didn't provide a motive for the alleged murder on Thursday. They also have not revealed how she was killed.

He was arrested at his home by members of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and the Plainsboro Police Department, with the assistance of the Lindenwold Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office — Homicide Unit on Aug. 21.

“I sincerely thank and commend the many dedicated members of law enforcement who have worked tirelessly to solve this homicide, and apprehend the defendant. The investigation has been a top priority since the crime occurred, ” Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey said. “I hope that the arrest brings at least some sense of peace to the friends and family of Carolyn, as well as the greater community.”
