Campus Radio Host Elected Alumnus Trustee at Camden County College

Christopher Shinn of Berlin, who was selected by his peers in the CCC Class of 2015, will serve a one-year term on the CCC Board.

A student who returned to Camden County College 30 years after he first attended and then became a prolific interviewer on campus radio station WDBK 91.5 FM has been chosen as the 2015-16 alumni representative to the Camden County College Board of Trustees.

Christopher Shinn, 50, of Berlin was elected to a one-year term by his peers in the Class of 2015. He completed his associate degree in business with a 3.2 grade-point average and is transferring to Rutgers University to complete a bachelor’s degree in business.

While at CCC, Shinn served as vice president of the Student Government Association and coordinated and hosted a comedy night event to benefit the radio station and the Wounded Warrior Project. As WDBK talk show host “Captain Chris,” he interviewed more than 70 artists, business owners, coaches, athletes, professors and politicians – including former New Jersey Gov. Jim Florio – with a mission of promoting pathways to career and life success and highlighting positive local events and creative solutions to local problems.

During his time as alumni representative, Shinn hopes to raise awareness of student needs among the College’s trustees. He also aims to ensure that student voices be heard, both at the board table and by continuing his radio program.

“Getting involved with your school and your community,” he says, “is how you get involved with your life.”
