Families Grieve As Probes In 2 Mysterious N.J. Murders Continue

At least two, possibly three killers remain on the loose in the murders, which happened 30 miles apart.

"This just isn't fair."

Those were the words of Brittany Maguire, posted on social media, after her mother, Michelle Long, was brutally beaten and found in a pool at her South Jersey home last week.

It was one of two mysterious South Jersey murders, 30 miles apart, happening in the two weeks that have confounded friends and family of the victims, and produced very little information from authorities. And at least two, possibly three killers remain on the loose.

"My nights are spent staring at pictures and begging for you to come back," Maguire said about her mother, who was killed at her Swedesboro home on Forrest Court in Woolwich Township on June 17.

Authorities also may be searching for two possible black-hooded killers after a 45-year-old South Jersey woman was shot and killed Sunday at her farmhouse. The Camden County Prosecutor's Office has said the investigation is ongoing.

A 911 call obtained by Patch shows the father of Deanna Marie Scordo, 45, of Winslow Township telling the dispatcher that two men wearing black hoods broke into the home, shot his daughter, and left her in a corner.

In that case, Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton has only said the investigation into the homicide is "progressing."

"However, all available information indicates there is no immediate safety concern for area residents,” he said, adding that anyone with information can contact Detective Michael Bates of the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office at 856-384-5552.

As the probes continue, families and friends have been posting on social media, remembering their loved ones, expressing their bewilderment about what happened and showing concern about the surprising violence in their peaceful communities.

"I am posting pictures of you non stop because I want everyone to remember your beautiful smile and keep your spirit strong," Maguire wrote. "Your family misses you and we love you more than anything. I know you're with us protecting and guiding us. Keep giving us you're strength we need it more than ever."
