Fire Destroys Camden Co. Apartment Complex, Displacing Dozens: Reports

5 police officers and a firefighter were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, according to 6abc Action News.

PINE HILL, NJ — A massive fire destroyed a Pine Hill apartment building Tuesday night, displacing dozens of people and hospitalizing several first responders, according to reports.

The fire broke out at about 6 p.m. on a second-floor balcony at the Mansion Apartments on West Branch Avenue, according to nj.com. It took about 2 hours to control and gutted the 16-unit complex.

Twenty-six people from 13 families were displaced, nj.com reports.

First responders went door-to-door trying to rescue residents, according to 6abc Action News. Five police officers and a firefighter were brought to the hospital for smoke inhalation, Pine Hill Police Chief Christopher Winters told the news outlet.

No residents were hurt.

The New Jersey Red Cross is assisting displaced residents with food, clothing and temporary lodging, according to nj.com.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
