Gloucester School District Posts Requirements For BOE Vacancy

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Gloucester Township K-8 School District Board of Education has posted its requirements for filling the vacancy on the board. According to the post on the school district’s website, the legal requirements are as follows. A board member must be:

  • a citizen of the United States of America
  • at least 18 (eighteen) years of age
  • able to read and write
  • a resident of Gloucester Township for at least one year preceding the date of the appointment
  • not disqualified as a voter pursuant to N.J.S.A. 19:4-1
  • a registered voter in the district
  • not disqualified from membership for the conviction of crimes pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1*

*Within 30 days of appointment to the board, a member must undergo a criminal history background check through the New Jersey Department of Education.

Those eligible residents of Gloucester Township having an interest in filling the position shall send a letter providing information about themselves and summarizing their interest in the position. All letters must be received by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019.

Letters should be sent to: Mrs. Jean Grubb, School Business Administrator/Board Secretary, c/o Gloucester Township Board of Education, 17 Erial Rd. Blackwood, NJ 08012.

Interviews will be conducted in public, with the board deliberating in private. The vote to fill the vacancy must be held in public, and will require a majority vote of the remaining eight members.

The person selected to fill the seat will serve for the rest of the year. A special election will be held in November. The winner will fill the remainder of the term.

That person will have to undergo a full criminal background check before being seated at next January's reorganization meeting.
