Highland Baseball Team Advances to South Jersey Final

The Tartans defeated Toms River South to advance on Tuesday.

Gloucester Township, NJ -- The Highland Regional High School baseball team is one win away from a South Jersey title.

The second-seeded Tartans defeated No. 6 Toms River South, 5-0, to advance to the finals of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 playoffs on Tuesday, according to nj.com.

Highland was to face the winner of Wednesday’s game between Ocean City and Mainland in the final on Friday.

Anthony Masselli pitched a complete game, striking out five, allowing three hits and walking two to pick up the win, according to the report.

At one point, he sat 14 consecutive batters, and none of Toms River South’s players made it past second base.

Christian Scafidi and Alex Russo each had an RBI as the Tartans scored their runs by playing small ball.

Highland opened the playoffs with a 7-6 win over No. 15 Triton.

The quarterfinals brought a 1-0 win over No. 7 Seneca.
