Highland Wins, Timber Creek And Triton Fall On Thanksgiving

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ - Coming off one disappointment, the Highland Regional High School football team wasn’t about to experience another.

Triton held the halftime lead, but the Tartans shut out the Mustangs in the second half and came from behind for a 20-12 win in the Thanksgiving Day rivalry game, according to nj.com.

Johnny Martin put Highland on the board first with a 5-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but Triton scored twice to take the lead in the second quarter.

Geff Giancaterino threw a 94-yard touchdown pass to Eric Staton to put Triton on the board, and the Mustangs took the lead on Davaunte Payton’s 54-yard run. Triton was unable to connect on their PAT attempts.

In the third, Highland reclaimed the lead on Kasim Randall-Dale’s 30-yard touchdown run. Martin’s 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth capped the scoring.

Timber Creek dropped their Thanksgiving Day game, falling to Winslow, 25-19, according to nj.com. Fred (Justin) Jefferson accounted for two touchdowns, as he threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Tarheeb Still and scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Vance Carr had a 4-yard touchdown run for the Chargers.

Highland was 9-2 this season. They were the No. 2 seed in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 4 playoffs, and defeated No. 7 Ocean City, 28-14, in the first round. They fell to No. 3 Clearview, 20-0, in the semifinals.

Triton was 5-5 this season. The Mustangs made the playoffs, but fell to Woodrow Wilson, 41-6, in the first round.

Timber Creek was 4-7 this season. They were the No. 5 seed in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 playoffs and pulled off a first-round upset with a 33-28 win over No. 4 Wall. They fell to top-seeded Burlington Township, 21-18, in the semifinals.
