Man Charged In Fatal Weekend Stabbing In South Jersey

Darryl Townsend, 33, of Camden, is charged with the murder of 27-year-old Tyree Kirkpatrick.

One person is in custody after a Camden man was fatally stabbed in the city early Saturday morning, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson said.

Police responded to the Abblett Village Apartments in Camden in response to a 911 call about a custody dispute received at about 4:55 a.m. Saturday morning.

While on location, officers heard a disturbance on the second floor, unrelated to the custody dispute.
Officers entered the apartment to investigate the disturbance and were met by Kirkpatrick at the top of the stairs. He had been stabbed in the chest, police said.

Kirkpatrick was treated at the scene and transported to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:33 a.m. Sunday morning.

Patrol officers caught Townsend attempting to flee the apartment, police said.

He was arrested, charged and remanded to the Camden County Jail on $1 million full cash bail.
