Armed Man Shot By Police In South Jersey Has Been Charged
The man was shot as he approached a woman who was holding an 8-month-old baby earlier this week.

A 38-year-old man who was shot by police during a domestic violence incident earlier this week has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo said Friday morning.
Jose A. Fernandez-Ventura, 38, of Camden has been charged with the attempted murder of the female victim, aggravated assault by pointing a firearm at the female victim, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Camden County Police responded to a home on the 2700 block of Federal Street in Camden Wednesday morning in response to a 911 call for domestic violence and a man armed with a gun.

When they arrived, they discovered Fernandez-Ventura was in possession of a gun and was approaching the woman, who had an 8-month-old baby in her lap, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Police say they shot him as he was approaching the woman, and that he then fired at her and the infant at close range.

The prosecutor’s office mentioned the presence of the child for the first time on Friday. The baby was not injured, according ton Sgt. Eric Wren. The office had no further comment concerning the child.
Fernandez-Ventura and the woman were both hospitalized at Cooper University Hospital. They both remained hospitalized Friday morning. Their conditions weren’t immediately known.
