Live Wire Electrocutes South Jersey Teen After Crash Into Pole: Police
He only sustained minor injuries from the crash. But the incident became fatal after he walked away from his vehicle, authorities said.
MAURICE RIVER, NJ — A teen crashed into and broke a utility pole Saturday in Cumberland County. The incident became fatal after he walked into a live wire and got electrocuted, according to State Police.
The driver and his passenger only sustained minor injuries from the crash itself. But after getting electrocuted, the driver — a 17-year-old Millville resident — died at the hospital, authorities said.
Troopers responded to the crash at 6:18 p.m. in Maurice River Township. A Ford passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on East Point Road when the driver lost directional control, according to the preliminary investigation.

The vehicle struck a pole and subsequently overturned, according to Tpr. Troy McNair. Both the driver and passenger exited the vehicle.
The driver proceeded southbound on foot and ultimately walked into a low-hanging live wire. He was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, McNair said.

Police have not disclosed the decedent's name. The incident remains under investigation.
