Terroristic Threats Charge For Subject Of South Jersey Manhunt: Police

EASTERN CAMDEN COUNTY — The man who was the subject of a manhunt in eastern Camden County was charged on Monday with making terrorist threats and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, the Berlin Township Police Department said.

The search for Lewis O. Tilton III began shortly before 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, when the Berlin Township Police Department was told that Tilton was armed, walking on Cooper Road towards State Route 73 and had threatened to kill people, according to authorities.

He was captured and arrested early Monday morning, authorities said.

In a news release, Berlin Township Police Department Lieutenant Ronald Silverson expressed appreciation to the "many residents from multiple towns and boroughs" whose cooperation and patience were displayed during the search for Tilton.

"Unfortunately many citizens' daily lives and routines were disrupted yesterday, however the outcome we sought, which was taking Lewis Tilton into custody without anyone being injured was achieved," Silverson continued.

The search for Tilton involved the Voorhees, Berlin Township, Berlin Borough, Waterford Township, Lindenwold, Stratford, Gibbsboro, Cherry Hill, Evesham, Gloucester Township, Pine Hill and Cumberland County police departments and New Jersey State Police, authorities said.
