Star Football Player From Williamstown Transfers To Timber Creek: Report

Defensive end Eric Smith is not yet eligible to play football for Timber Creek this season.

Gloucester Township, NJ -- A senior defensive end who starred for the Williamstown Regional High School football team last year has enrolled at Timber Creek, the Courier Post reports.

Black Horse Pike Regional Schools Athletic Director Frank Torcasio has not yet sent transfer paperwork for Eric Smith to Smith’s old high school, so Smith can’t play football, according to the report. Once the paperwork is complete and signed by Williamstown Athletic Director Ron Becker and/or Principal Jill DelConte, Smith would be eligible to play.

Transfer paperwork includes boxes that indicate whether the school believes the student transferred for athletic advantage, and if that student was recruited. If either box is checked or the form goes unsigned, an NJSIAA hearing would convene about the eligibility of the transfer, according to the report.

The report comes amid an investigation into the eligibility of 11 players who attend the school from outside the district and played on the program’s championship teams in 2011, 2012 and 2015.

It was just under a month ago that the district confirmed that some students have been denied enrollment at the high school due to questions concerning their residency.

A few weeks ago, Superintendent Brian Repici acknowledged that the district is cooperating with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office in an investigation.

The anonymous group hurling the allegations at Timber Creek has implicated coach Robert Hinson in any possible wrongdoing. Hinson has denied the allegations, and a group of supporters urged the district to stand behind the coach during the Aug. 25 Board of Education meeting.

Timber Creek opens the season Friday night at Delsea, 7 p.m.
