Supermarket Giant Lidl May Be On Its Way To Gloucester Township

Multiple South Jersey locations have been targeted by the German supermarket giant, including Gloucester Township.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — The former Nike missile base on Berlin-Cross Keys Road in Gloucester Towship is one of a number of sites that may soon be home to German grocery store giant Lidl, according to published reports.

In fact, the Cherry Hill Planning Board will consider a proposal that would bring Lidl to that township when it meets on Monday, April 3, the Courier Post reports.

The store would be built at a 6-acre site on Route 38 West and Cuthbert Boulevard, according to the report.

In September, Business Insider reported Lidl planned to open a litany of stores in the United States by 2018, with a heavy focus on the East Coast from New Jersey to Georgia. The unofficial number of new stores listed was about 150.

The chain, known for its rock bottom prices, already has more than 10,000 stores in 26 European countries, according to the report. It is considered to be a cross between Walmart and Trader Joe’s.
