Suspect in 13-Year-Old Boy's Murder Surrenders on Unrelated Charges: Reports

The boy's mother also recently spoke out about his troubles and Camden's gang culture.

A 16-year-old girl who is a suspect in the shooting death of 13-year-old Nathaniel Plummer Jr. surrendered to authorities on unrelated charges over the weekend, nj.com reports.

The unidentified girl was also wanted on charges related to an attempted murder that took place on Oct. 30 in Camden, according to the report. She has not been charged in Plummer’s murder.

Police found Plummer Jr. of Camden, lying on the sidewalk on the 2900 block of Line Street in Camden after responding to a ShotSpotter activation and 911 calls reporting a shooting at 11:15 p.m. Thursday night.

He was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 12:14 a.m. on Friday.

The investigation is ongoing, and rumors have been circulating that police were looking for in connection with the shooting, according to philly.com. Other teenagers have been sharing her name and photo on social media, prompting law enforcement officials to fear for her life.

Meanwhile, Plummer’s mother, Taisha Mercado, recently told the Courier Post the last year has been difficult on her son, who has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and oppositional defiant disorder, and watched his father get arrested last year.

He admitted he was involved in a gang, likely the Bloods, and disappeared twice last year, according to the report. When he returned after his second disappearance, their home was shot up, according to the report.

The family stayed with Plummer Jr.’s grandmother while awaiting approval to move from a residential program. That approval came one day after Plummer Jr. was shot, according to the report. She has been very outspoken concerning the gang culture in Camden.
