Timber Creek, Triton Help Playoff Positioning With Wins

Timber Creek defeated Hammonton and Triton downed Seneca, according to nj.com.

The Timber Creek High School football team will enter the playoffs undefeated.

The Chargers’ 44-17 win over Hammonton on Friday night helped the team improve to 8-0. The playoffs begin next weekend, and matchups will be announced on Sunday.

Timber Creek was No. 1 in this week’s Group IV power points standings, two spots ahead of Hammonton, which fell to 6-3. Shawnee was second and improved to 8-0 with a win over Eastern on Thursday.

Khalil Trotman had four touchdown passes for Timber Creek, according to nj.com.

Trotman threw a 17-yard score to Shaquese McIntyre; a 29-yard score to Cameron Chambers; an 11-yard pass to Noah Ellison; and a 47-yard score Alan Butler.

Shawn Springs returned a punt 60 yards for a score, Walter Lewis added a 9-yard touchdown run and Tyler Coluccio connected a 25-yard field goal.

Triton improved its Group IV playoff position with a 24-8 win over Seneca. Triton, which came into the week in sixth place, improved to 5-3 with the win.

Dominic Staiano scored twice, on runs of 3 and 42 yards. John Butts had a 36-yard touchdown run, and Kevin Bucceroni returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown.

Triton gained some breathing room when Winslow, who was one point behind Triton, lost to Cherry Hill West on Thursday.

Kingsway and Clearview, who were both ahead of Triton in the standings, were victorious on Friday night.

Atlantic City’s win over Absegami likely gave the Vikings the final playoff spot.

Highland saw its hopes of making the playoffs in South Jersey Group III disappear when it lost to Cumberland, 26-6, on Friday. Mark Gillis scored the only touchdown of the game for the Tartans, which fell to 2-6.

The top eight teams in each group after the first eight games of the season qualify for the playoffs. Only a team’s seven best wins of their first eight games count toward qualifying for the playoffs.

Power points are calculated based on the size of the schools a team has defeated, and the number of wins that team has.
