Homes Damaged, Power Outages Throughout Gloucester Township

PSE&G customers can expect full restoration by 4 p.m. Thursday.

A total of 21 homes in Gloucester Township suffered damage during Tuesday night’s storm, and at least eight are uninhabitable, Gloucester Township Emergency Management Coordinator Ray Evans said on Wednesday.

One home was damaged by fire and 20 were damaged by falling trees. Evans said an assessment of the rest of the township was ongoing.

Orr Road is still closed and Sicklerville Road is down to one lane heading west.

There are numerous crews working to clear roadways of trees and debris, police said Wednesday morning.

Sporadic power outages continue throughout the township, and several traffic lights are inactive. Residents are advised to stop at each light as a safety precaution. Evans said there were about 15 intersections in which traffic lights remained inactive Wednesday evening.

Power outages are more of a problem in the southern portion of the township, but Timberbirch off Somerdale Road is the development experiencing the most outages.

PSE&G expects power to be restored by 4 p.m. Thursday. This means a complete restoration of power north of Davistown Road, and many residents may see their power restored before then.

Atlantic City Electric expects most customers to have power back by mid-day Saturday, with full restoration by midnight Sunday.

Police are advising residents to stay off the road, particularly in areas in which there is no electricity. Evans said people should especially avoid trying to travel at night.

Trash pickup may be pushed back one day on streets where trash trucks can’t get through due to downed wires and debris.

Residents should leave trees and debris that need to be removed in the aftermath of the storm curbside in a safe and organized manner.

Anyone who has spoiled food because they are without electricity can drop that food off at Public Works on Thursday at noon.

Camden County College and the Gloucester Township Recreation Center are both closed on Wednesday.
