Walgreens To Permanently Close In Gloucester Township
The store and pharmacy will cease operations next month, according to a company spokesperson.

GLENDORA, NJ — A Walgreens store in Gloucester Township will permanently close. Nov. 13 will mark the last day of operations at the Glendora location.
Walgreens plans to close 150 U.S. stores by the end of August 2024, according to a recent company call. The pharmaceutical retail giant has about 9,000 stores around the country.
When a Walgreens store closes, pharmacy patients typically don't have to take action, according to a company spokesperson. The company informs patients through mail and other means that their prescription files have automatically transferred to the nearest Walgreens.

"When faced with the difficult decision to close a location, several factors are taken into account, including our existing footprint of stores, dynamics of the local market, and changes in the buying habits of our patients and customers, among other reasons," a company spokesperson told Patch via email. "As we expand as a leader in healthcare, we are focused on best meeting the needs of patients and customers in communities we serve by creating the right network of stores in the right locations."
Walgreens also plans to shutter 300 stores in the United Kingdom and eliminate more than 500 corporate roles.
The downsizing plan came after Walgreens experienced reduced demand for COVID-19 vaccines and lower earnings than anticipated for the year.
