Woman Nearly Abducted Outside Her Gloucester Township Home: Police

She was standing outside her house when a car approached her and a man tried to pull her in.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Gloucester Township woman narrowly avoided being abducted while she stood outside her home smoking Monday night, police said.

A woman between the ages of 20 and 30 years old was assaulted by a man who tried to pull her into a car on Mayapple Road at about 9:11 p.m. Monday night, Gloucester Township Police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call, but were unable to find a car in the area, police said Tuesday evening.

The car is described as a newer model white SUV with black trim and an in-dash navigation system.

The man is described as in his 20s between 5’6” and 5’9” with patchy facial hair wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

According to the initial investigation, the woman was standing outside her home smoking when the car drove up to her house.

The man got out of the car, asked her if she lived in the neighborhood, and then began asking her questions on how to leave.

He then walked up to her, grabbed her and attempted to pull her into the car. When the woman screamed, he let her go.

As she continued to scream, family members came outside. The car left the area towards Sicklerville Road.

The victim did not sustain any significant injuries and Detectives are following up with possible suspect identifications.

There was a similar incident recently in New Castle County, but there doesn’t appear to be any connection, Gloucester Township Police said.
