Budget, Salary Approvals on Council's Agenda

Governing body will hold final regular meeting of March Thursday night.

The Hackettstown Mayor and Council is set to approve its 2013 budget Thursday night, one that comes with a $45 tax hike for the average homeowner.

With a proposed 1.68-percent increase in the tax levy complying with the state mandated 2-percent tax levy cap, the municipal spending plan won’t go to the voters for approval.

The overall budget comes in at $9,811,813.16, which is actually down from last year’s expenses by $124,370.17. But the tax levy–the portion of the budget funded by commercial and property taxes–is up $104,323.10. The majority of that, $101,000, is due to additional debt service.
