Drunk Long Valley Man Causes Crash, Cops Say

A Long Valley man was charged with driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana after crashing his car into another vehicle Saturday night, Hackettstown Police Sgt. Darren Tynan said.

Garrick Scott, 22, was heading eastbound on Route 57 in Hackettstown when he crashed into a Woodstown woman, who was stopped at a red light, Tynan said. 

Scott told police at the scene he thought the light was green, and attempted to proceed, Tynan said.

A smell of alcohol was detected and Scott failed a field sobriety test, Tynan said. Scott was then taken to Hackettstown Police headquarters. 

After searching Scott's vehicle, police found a glass jar containing suspected marijuana, Tynan said.

Scott was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, possession of controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

There were no injuries as a result of the accident, Tynan said.
