Man Stole Toy to Get $96 Gift Card, Police Say
Hackettstown resident's friend charged with hindering apprehension after stuffing man in closet, police report.

A Hackettstown man was charged with theft and a female accomplice was charged with hindering apprehension just after Christmas all for the sum of $96, according to Hackettstown Police Sgt. Darren Tynan.
An investigation stemming from a theft at an Arthur Terrace apartment on Dec. 20 led police to David Evans, 30, who allegedly stole a child's kitchen play set that belonged to his mother, Tynan said.
Evans then took the item to WalMart in Mansfield Township where he returned it for a $96.26 gift card, Tynan said.

On Dec. 26, police officers were serving Evans with a complaint summons when Wendy Hageasen, 46, attempted to hide Evans in a bedroom closet away from authorities, Tynan said.
Evans was found and charged with theft. Hageasen was charged with hindering apprehension.
