NJ State Trooper Of The Year Honored For Historic Warren County Drug Busts

Trooper James Agens conducted the largest cold-stop heroin seizure in U.S. history.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ— The New Jersey State Police's 2016 Trooper of The Year is Trooper James Agens. He is recognized for his role in a major drug bust in Warren County last year.

A member of the Movile Safe Freight Unit, Agens played a key role in getting $6.7 million worth of drugs off the street during a two different Warren County drug busts.

"As part of this effort, Tpr. I Agens distinguished himself as a result of his diligent criminal patrol, bulk drug seizures, and unwavering dedication," the State Police wrote on Facebook.

During a traffic safety stop in May 2015, Agens suspected criminal activity, and that investigation uncovered 15 kilograms of heroin.

A second safety inspection just two months later resulted in the seizure of 64 kilograms of heroin and 10 kilograms of cocaine. It was the largest cold-stop heroin seizure anywhere in the county in history.
