Haddonfield Girls Soccer Team Falls By 1 Goal In State Final

The Bulldawgs were 25-2 this season, with 14 shutouts.

Haddonfield, NJ -- The Haddonfield High School girls soccer team was involved in 11 games that were decided by one goal during the 2016 season. The Bulldawgs were 10-1 in those games, but unfortunately, that one loss came in the state final.

Parsipanny Hills defeated Haddonfield, 1-0, on Saturday to capture the NJSIAA Group 2 State Championship, according to nj.com. Paige Restaino scored the winning goal on a header off a corner kick by Natalia Gallo-Lopez in the second half. It was Parsipanny Hills’ first Group 2 title.

Haddonfield goalie Maya Olimpio made three saves.

Haddonfield was 25-2, and advanced to the state final with a 1-0 win over Robbinsville in the state semifinals.
Julia Parker scored the game-winning goal in that win. Nic Green had the assist on that goal, and scored the winning goal in Haddonfield’s 1-0 win over Cinnaminson in the South Jersey Group 2 final.

It was Haddonfield’s second 1-0 win over Cinnaminson this season, having eliminated the Pirates from the South Jersey Coaches Association tournament.

After opening the playoffs with a 5-0 win over Manasquan, the Bulldawgs won a series of close games, including 2-1 over West Deptford and 3-2 over Deptford.

According to nj.com, other close wins this season included a 1-0 win over Sterling on Sept. 12; 2-1 over Haddon Heights on Sept. 22; 1-0 over Cedar Creek on Sept. 30; 2-1 at Audubon on Oct. 10; and 1-0 over Mainland on Oct. 22.

In all, Haddonfield pitched 14 shutouts, including three games in which it outscored the opposition 6-0. On Oct. 13, Haddonfield posted their highest goal output of the season in a 7-3 win at Sterling.
