Haddonfield Named Top Town In SJ By South Jersey Magazine

HADDONFIELD, NJ — Haddonfield residents have something to smile about this morning as their hometown has been voted No. 1 in all of South Jersey by South Jersey Magazine.

With New Jersey set to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic and five new businesses coming to the borough, residents will soon once again be able to enjoy the amenities Haddonfield is being praised for.

“With 25 towns throughout the region ranked for this recognition, it’s truly an honor to have Haddonfield recognized as the #1 town to live, work and visit, not only in the county but in the South Jersey region,” Haddonfield Mayor Neal Rochford said. “We hope that this continued recognition will encourage those who haven’t experienced our historic town, to come and visit for the day when in the Delaware Valley area.”

South Jersey Magazine’s rankings are based on data from the New Jersey State Police, the New Jersey Department of Education, and the state’s Division of Local Government Services. It takes into account average property values and taxes, crime incidents reported per 1,000 residents and high school performance numbers that include average SAT scores, graduation rates, and more.

According to South Jersey Magazine, Haddonfield’s property values are among the highest in the region, its schools are “topnotch” and the quality of life close-knit community are ideal.
Haddonfield has long been considered one of the best small towns in the Delaware Valley. The town has taken on many different appearances and roles since it was founded within portions of Haddon Township in 1875, later becoming an independent municipality in 1894.

Today, it is a successful residential community with historic homes, an excellent school system, a Downtown with lovely shops and restaurants, and historic sites like the Indian King Tavern and Greenfield Hall, officials said in a release announcing the award.

Although its businesses have been closed since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, Downtown Haddonfield has been highlighting ways to safely visit Haddonfield’s shops and restaurants through its Open For Business campaign.
